چکیده

The resins used in sealants are Bis-GMA and urethane dimethacrylate diluted with appropriate dimethacrylate resins. 8,9 Recently, inorganic fillers have been added to sealants to allow the materials to be both esthetically pleasing and more visible clinically. 1°,11 As a result, the issue of proper polymer tag formation that is essential for sealant retention becomes important,a, 1113 Although fluoride-releasing sealants are believed to enhance clinical effectiveness, 14,15 evaluations should be conducted to determine whether their bonding characteristics are similar to those of conventional pit and fissure sealants. The purpose of this study was to compare unfilled, filled, and fluoride-releasing filled sealants to each other through shear bond, scanning electron microscope, and microleakage evaluations.

Fluoridated and nonfluoridated unfilled sealants show similar shear strength.

In recent years, resin-based fluoridated sealants have been introduced, the fluoride intended as a cariespreventive ingredient. Studies of prophylaxis pastes containing glycerine or fluoride that attribute poor retention to an impervious layer produced by the fluoride and other ingredients 1, 2 have been discounted by Bogert and Garcia-Godoy3 and Koch et al. 4 using newer generations of bonding...

In vitro Effects of a Neutral Fluoride Agent on Shear Bond Strength and Microleakage of Orthodontic Brackets

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pretreatment with a neutral fluoride agent on shear bond strength (SBS) and microleakage of orthodontic brackets, and to investigate any significant relationship between SBS and microleakage. Methods: Forty intact premolars were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups. Group 1 served as the control, while group 2 underwent treatment w...

Comparative evaluation for microleakage between Fuji-VII glass ionomer cement and light-cured unfilled resin: a combined in vivo in vitro study.

Glass ionomer cement, besides being used as restorative material, can also be used as pit and fissure sealant. The use of glass ionomer cement as pit and fissure sealant has added benefit by its fluoride-releasing property that results in increased resistance of the fissures to demineralize. The capacity of a sealant to prevent microleakage into the fissure is important, since microleakage may ...

Microleakage of two fluoride-releasing sealants when applied following saliva contamination.

The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate microleakage of two fluoride-releasing sealants in saliva contaminated and non-contaminated conditions. Twenty-four human third molars were randomly assigned to two groups: saliva contaminated and saliva non-contaminated teeth. In the contaminated group, the teeth were contaminated with 0.02 ml artificial saliva for 20 seconds and blowed dry af...

Formulation and characterization of antibacterial fluoride-releasing sealants.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to formulate and characterize experimental antibacterial fluoride-releasing sealants and compare them with commercial sealants for fluoride release, recharge, adhesion, and microleakage. METHODS Two experimental sealants (Exp-1, Exp-2) containing a synthesized antibacterial fluoride-releasing monomer and fluoride-releasing filler were formulated. Exp-2 al...
